Imagine travelling back 150 years and encountering a lifestyle where what you have consists of what you can produce with your hands and the knowledge handed down to you from your ancestors. A place where cell phone communication and internet have yet to overtake face to face conversation and the written word. Welcome to Las Animas, a ranchero community nestled in the Sierra de la Giganta Range, the rugged spine dividing the Pacific coast from the Sea of Cortez. An oasis community, Las Animas suffers from its isolation and the increasingly infrequent rains, making it hard to subsist on local production alone.
RED has recently begun operations in Las Animas, in partnership with the local community and the conservation organization Niparajá. Together, we will develop low impact tourism products that create experiences for travelers that celebrate the unique lifestyle and traditions of these ranchero families, without compromising their culture and heritage.
