SCROLL · THE EXPERIENCE

Certified SCUBA divers find themselves in the ecosystem that inspired Jacques Cousteau — the Sea of Cortez, teeming with biomass across multiple depths.

The Bay of La Paz offers year-round diving across multiple certified sites. You descend through clear water to explore wreck dives, seamount ecosystems teeming with schooling fish, and depending on the season and group proficiency, approach the sea lion rookery at Los Islotes. Site selection is determined by your guide and group certification level; RED coordinates water time to maximize your encounter with the reserve's diverse marine life.

This is not a classroom introduction. This is a full-day active diving operation for certified divers, departing at 8:30 a.m. from Muelle Fiscal in La Paz, with two tanks, lunch, drinks, and return in time for dinner. The natural history briefing, the site coordination with your guide, and the bilingual naturalist accompaniment are all part of the operational professionalism that RED brings to every water operation in Baja California Sur.

The Framework

A half-day operation structured for depth.

01

Briefing and departure from Muelle Fiscal.

Meet at Muelle Fiscal in downtown La Paz at 8:30 a.m. RED provides a bilingual naturalist guide who will brief you on the sites you will be diving, the natural history of the bay and the local ecosystem, and the day's operational plan. Descend into a 27' fiberglass skiff with full shade, seat cushions, dry storage, and all safety equipment onboard. Your guide will confirm your certification level, discuss any medical considerations, and review the dive plan for each site.

09:00 Depart for first dive site
02

First and second dives with site rotation.

Descend on two tanks across multiple certified dive sites. The bay offers shallow wrecks suitable for recreational divers, and seamounts teeming with jacks, grouper, amberjack, and other schooling fish that respond to the bay's nutrient-rich upwells. Depending on the season, you may approach Los Islotes sea lion rookery, where the guide will determine if conditions permit close water observation. Site selection depends on your group's proficiency level and will be determined by your guide based on water conditions and operational timing. Between dives, return to the boat for a scrumptious lunch, snacks, drinks (including two beers per person), and surface interval rest.

09:30 First dive — site dependent on proficiency and conditions
11:00 Surface interval; lunch and drinks onboard
12:00 Second dive — seamounts, wrecks, or seasonal observations
13:30 Final surface interval; hydration and rest
03

Return to La Paz and debrief.

The boat returns to Muelle Fiscal by approximately 14:00–16:30 (duration varies by distance to sites and surface conditions). RED provides clean towels and coordinated ground transportation if requested. You arrive back in La Paz in time for dinner and evening exploration of the city.
